I think most of the Disney artists are pretty clean - Demi Lovato, HSM cast, etc.
David Cook is my absolute favorite! Here are a few of the other songs I personally listen to:
Love Song - Sara Bareilles
Home - Daughtry
Bad Day - Daniel Powter
You're Beautiful - James Blunt
I listen to these myself! They're more for the older teens, not the "tweens" so much.
Hmmm....my teenager is already set in her music...wish me luck!
I love all those songs!
I don't have teenagers... but Josh loves to listen to Rascal Flatts (sp?). I think they are a great group.
No teenagers yet, and I can't say I'm looking forward to the teenage years. :)
I don't have teens but I can imagine I am...lol
Roots Before Branches - Room for Two (it was on Disney channel movie)
Collide - Howie Day
Say - John Mayer
This Is My Now - Jordin Sparks
Unwritten - Natasha Beddingfield
How to Save a Life - The Fray
I Dare you to Move - Switchfoot
This list is a great start. It's so hard to not find something in every song that isn't something I want my teenager thinking about. Even "You're Beautiful" is about a woman he can never have and she's with someone else..etc. My son is a musician and loves the Beatles with an unbelievable passion. But as far as the new stuff, your list covers all his likes, well probably with the exception of Miley! : )
These lists are most helpful. Don't have teens yet, but they are music lovers.
my husband and I already talk about this---where's the appropriate hip music?
good to know there is some...
Miz.
No teen yest but at two she likes ot listen to that music. She listens to all I do and I keep it clean.
I love the songs that you listed! I think those artist have a few more songs out that might also be appropriate!
Sorry I've been gone. I have had issues with my home internet connection! I think I am back for good but you never know!!!Let's keep our fingers crossed!!!
I asked my 16 y/o son for input. He shared the following list with me and also cautioned that the song, "You're Beautiful" is only appropriate in the edited version. (This is the version generally heard on radio, but one version that is easily found on the internet has bad language.)
I can only imagine
-Mercy Me

Story of my life
-Smash Mouth
Hanging by a moment
You and me
-Lifehouse
Light up the Sky
How I go

I didn't go through and listen to all those songs and you may not agree with his list, but he is very good to change stations when songs he deems inappropriate come on the radio.
I can't say that I love all the styles of music that he listens to, but at a glance of the music on the list, I can see several songs that I know and like.
Anyway, gotta love 'im. He's an awesome kid.
Great post idea. I'll have to ask my teens about these songs. (One of my teens will only listen to classical music-- when he's in the car I make everybody listen to his choice since he has better musical taste than any of us.)
My kids haven't got into the music scene too much yet. Our older son (13)likes some of the 80's rock - stuff I can relate to!! My daugther (11) likes some of the Disney stuff. But not much else really interests her. This is good info to know - I'm sure one of these days their tastes will change to artists I've never even heard of...
Great list--my daughter is a tween and love the Jonas Brothers (pretty squeeky clean) and all the High School Musical stuff ;)
Thanks for the list! It's so hard to find good clean music for kids to listen to. My son has an MP3 player and wants to download a bunch of music so now I can help him do that. Thanks!
I stumbled upon a CD called 'I am special'while visiting Jamaica last Christmas. It's really cool CD. Absolutely great for children. Clean lyrics and a nice reggae mix.
This is possibly an option. Well, my kids certainly enjoyed it.
And course it is always good to experience different cultures.
as a thirteen yr old i know how hard it is to find music but its important to listen to music that boosts ur self confidence not drains it.....i love taylor swift and more beautiful u

Toby Mac is Christian Rap/Rock/Funk and our family's favorite. His stuff is appropriate for secular dances too because many of the songs are clean but not overtly religious. Great beat...I can't say enough how much my 5 teens enjoys his music! Awesome!
love bad day and sos.
hmm.... for clean songs, you can usually get kidz bop versions of it.

Adam Lambert was reprimanded for his totally vulgar performance on the Grammy's after he was on American Idol. He's very talented, but pretty disgusting in his style. Here is a quote from "PluggedIn.com" which is a very helpful website for getting info on music, movies and games.
"Sexual swagger and innuendo pervade For Your Entertainment. The first two lines of the first song (a Queen-esque anthem titled "Music Again") set the stage in that regard: "I want your body, mind, soul, et cetera/And one day you’ll see, you should give it to me." Later in that track, Lambert makes a bid for another person’s lover, saying, "You give me back my raison d’ĂȘtre/ … In some ways we’re kinda evil." On the title track, Adam hints at sadomasochistic sex with these lines: "I’m a hurt you real good baby/ … Give it to ya ’til you’re screamin’ my name/ … Take the pain/Take the pleasure/I’m the master of both."
Please think again about letting your kids choose this as an example of "Clean" music.

You're beautiful by James Blunt drops an F-bomb and Maroon 5 swears quite a bit in most of their songs.
IT'S A BEAUTIFUL DAY by Bianca Scaglione and Andra Nechita. (It was in the opening scene of a Hallmark movie called 'The Sweeter Side of Life' aired in January 2013. Cute movie - GREAT UPBEAT HAPPY NON-LOVE SONG! YES!!)
