Wordless/ful Wednesday

What musical instrument am I?

Answer to last Wordless/ful Wednesday: Electric Violin

Electric violins are usually made with a solid body and a built-in pickup to amplify the sound. Most electric violins have 5-7 strings. Electric violins have been around since the 1920's. Stuff Smith (a blues and jazz artist) was one of the first performers to play electric violin. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_violin)

Today, electric violins are used in jazz, pop, hip-hop, rock, metal, country, new age, and contemporary classical music.

Below is an example of what the electric violin sounds like:

  3. Thanks for sharing this. I have never heard an electric violin. Interesting. I think I prefer a traditional violin but this is pretty cool for a certain style of music.

  7. I should know this as I was a majorette in the marching band through high school and college... my friends played them... either a clarinet or flute?

Great blog!!! My children love music - it's big here in our house!

  8. Ah, that lil' charmer is the reason I have hearing loss in my right ear! That be a piccolo, made of either wood or rosin (plastic). Wood is preferred. The silver "pea shooter" piccolos usually found in high schools are dangerous; I swear they can peel paint with a simple pucker. The wood/rosin version has a warmer tone and is, in my opinion, easier to play.
And the piccolo made me a kick-tush flute player. When God and the whole world can hear you, you make darned sure that you know the music, that you're in tune, and that you sound good. ;)

  10. I have never seen a black flute or piccolo, but it certainly does look like a piccolo. So, in case there are no such things as black piccolos, my vote will be an oboe. Do I get a prize if I am right--hee hee;)!
