Lullaby and Goodnight
Johannes Brahms Lyrics
Lyllaby, and good night,
With pink roses bedight,
With lilies o'erspread,
Is my baby's sweet head.
Lay you down now, and rest,
May your slumber be blessed!
Lay you down now, and rest,
May thy slumber be blessed!
Lullaby, and good night,
You're your mother's delight,
Shining angels beside
My darling abide.
Soft and warm is your bed,
Close your eyes and rest your head.
Soft and warm is your bed,
Close your eyes and rest your head.
Sleepyhead, close your eyes.
Mother's right here beside you.
I'll protect you from harm,
You will wake in my arms.
Guardian angels are near,
So sleep on, with no fear.
Guardian angels are near,
So sleep on, with no fear.
Lullaby, and sleep tight.
Hush! My darling is sleeping,
On his sheets white as cream,
With his head full of dreams.
When the sky's bright with dawn,
He will wake in the morning.
When noontide warms the world,
He will frolic in the sun.
Ahhh memories. CDs were still so new we didn't own any when my daughter was being rocked to lullibies. We wore out the cassette tape!
ReplyDeleteNice song.
ReplyDeleteOh man that brings me back to when El was teeny tiny! I have tears in my eyes!
ReplyDeletewe know another version of this song, which we sang (and still sing!) to our kids rather often at bedtime. My daughter's most prized stuffed animal USED to play this song when wound up, but sadly, Lambie went CLUNK TWANG one day and the music hasn't played since. We love this song!
ReplyDeletePS I have something for you on my blog today!
so sweet! Pippi likes to sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Stars and her ABCs together, which my neighbor said is the same tune. I guess so, I never realized before now.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful song.
ReplyDeleteThat pic is so adorable! So is the song!
ReplyDeleteYet another song I always hummed but never knew the lyrics too. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteSuch a sweet post. Reminds me when I used to play a CD with that song and rock my kids to sleep when they were babies!
ReplyDeleteis it sooo sad that i didn't know the words till you typed them out for me?
ReplyDeletethanks :)
Oh the sweetness overfloweth.

ReplyDeleteNice. I love that melody. I've never heard those lyrics. I sing a version to Fly every night, which is on a CD he got as a gift:
ReplyDeleteSay goodnight for the light
of daytime is gone
The moon will be bright
while you slumber through the night
Every star in the sky
is a sweet lullaby
you can hear low but clear
when the Sandman is near
A cloud will be there
to pillow your head
with the angels watching o'er
in your soft, downy bed
Till the great break of day
in a dream you will play
In a grand fairyland
in the sky, far away, in the sky, far away
I knew the tune, but not the words. Now I don't have to just hum it, I can sing it. Although, in the past I made up my own words.
ReplyDeleteHey, thanks for visiting my blog. I love yours, fun stuff and very important stuff for our children to learn and explore.
I really love the experiment with painting while listening to different kinds of music. I'm going to do that with my kiddos.
I've been singing the wrong lyrics to this one for so many years that they've become the "right" lyrics in our family. The correct lyrics are beautiful though.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful...it's funny that I really didn't know most of those words. When I sing to my son (which is rare. My voice is not exactly singing worthy!) I always just sing some ballad that I know.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
How sweet. I love lullibies and makes me so grateful to have a little baby at home.
